Who should not take Cipro?

The following conditions are contraindicated with this drug. Check with your physician if you have any of the following:

  • Loeys-Dietz syndrome
  • congenital myasthenic syndrome
  • aneurysm of aorta
  • kidney disease with likely reduction in kidney function
  • chronic kidney disease stage 5 (failure)
  • chronic kidney disease stage 4 (severe)
  • dissection of the aorta
  • heart transplant
  • lung transplant
  • anemia from pyruvate kinase and G6PD deficiencies
  • high pressure within the skull
  • seizures
  • rupture of a tendon
  • inflammation of a tendon
  • kidney transplant
  • liver problems
  • liver failure
  • cerebral ischemia
  • a lack of blood supply to the brain
  • abnormal EKG with QT changes from birth
  • prolonged QT interval on EKG
  • slow heartbeat
  • torsades de pointes
  • a type of abnormal heart rhythm
  • myasthenia gravis
  • a skeletal muscle disorder
  • a painful condition that affects the nerves in the legs and arms called peripheral neuropathy
  • pseudotumor cerebri
  • a condition with high fluid pressure in the brain
  • a low seizure threshold
  • low amount of potassium in the blood
  • dehydration
  • low amount of magnesium in the blood
  • glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency
  • low blood sugar
  • diabetes
  • severe liver disease
  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
  • Marfan syndrome
  • a condition with dry eyes
  • dry mouth and arthritis called Sjogren's syndrome
  • toxic psychosis
  • diarrhea from an infection with Clostridium difficile bacteria
  • chronic kidney disease stage 3A (moderate)
  • chronic kidney disease stage 3B (moderate)
