How the interaction occurs:

Ciprofloxacin may increase how quickly your body processes phenytoin.

What might happen:

Levels of phenytoin in the blood may be decreased, making the phenytoin less effective.

What you should do about this interaction:

Make sure that your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know which medicines you are currently taking. The amount of phenytoin in your blood may need to be checked or the dose of phenytoin may need to be changed by the doctor. Call your doctor or go to the emergency department if you experience a seizure.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
