This information is generalized and not intended as specific medical advice. Consult your healthcare professional before taking or discontinuing any drug or commencing any course of treatment.

Medical warning:

Moderate. These medicines may cause some risk when taken together. Contact your healthcare professional (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) for more information.

How the interaction occurs:

Acalabrutinib needs some gastric acid to be absorbed. Antacids and H2 antagonists decrease the amount of acid in your stomach. Some vitamins may contain "hidden" antacids such as some forms of calcium and magnesium.

What might happen:

If you take an antacid or H2 antagonist at the same time as your acalabrutinib, the amount of acalabrutinib that is absorbed into your blood may decrease and it may not work as well.

What you should do about this interaction:

Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. If you are taking a H2 antagonist (e.g. famotidine, nizatidine, ranitidine), take your acalabrutinib at least 2 hours before you take your H2 antagonist. If you are taking an antacid (aluminum/magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate), take it at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after you take your acalabrutinib. If you have any questions about how or when to take your medicine, ask your pharmacist.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
