Delavirdine/Antacids Interactions

How the interaction occurs:

Antacids decrease how much delavirdine your body absorbs.Some vitamins may contain "hidden" antacids such as some forms of magnesium.

What might happen:

The levels of delavirdine in your blood may decrease, making the medicine less effective.

What you should do about this interaction:

You should not take an antacid at the same time that you take your delavirdine. If you take an antacid, do not take it within one hour before or after your delavirdine. If you have been taking these medicines at the same time, let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know. Your doctor may want to run some blood tests to see if your delavirdine is working properly.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
