How the interaction occurs:

When these two medicines are taken together, antacids may prevent your body from absorbing deferasirox and penicillamine properly.

What might happen:

The beneficial effects of deferasirox and penicillamine may decrease.

What you should do about this interaction:

Separate the times you take your deferasirox or penicillamine and your antacid by as much time as possible and by at lease two hours.Your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of this drug interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
