Who should not take Phentermine-Topiramate Capsule, Extended Release Multiphase 24 Hr (Capsule, ER Hr)?

The following conditions are contraindicated with this drug. Check with your physician if you have any of the following:

Conditions:

  • overactive thyroid gland
  • diabetes
  • drug abuse
  • significant uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • abnormal heart rhythm
  • decreased kidney function
  • chronic kidney disease stage 4 (severe)
  • history of stroke
  • alcohol use disorder
  • glaucoma
  • an increased pressure in the eye
  • mild high blood pressure
  • chronic heart failure
  • pregnancy
  • coronary artery disease
  • a patient who is producing milk and breastfeeding
  • chronic kidney disease stage 3B (moderate)
  • chronic kidney disease stage 3A (moderate)
  • hyperammonemia associated with N-acetylglutamate synthase deficiency
  • citrullinemia
  • a feeling of pins and needles on skin
  • fever
  • memory loss
  • difficulty concentrating
  • liver problems
  • a decrease in sharpness of vision called reduced visual acuity
  • increased pressure in the eye
  • confusion
  • excess body acid
  • depression
  • suicidal thoughts
  • kidney stones
  • chronic kidney disease stage 5 (failure)
  • arginase deficiency
  • ornithine carbamoyltransferase deficiency
  • inherited carbamoyl phosphate synthetase deficiency
  • inherited deficiency of argininosuccinate lyase
  • diarrhea
  • kidney disease with likely reduction in kidney function
