Who should not take Rapamune?

The following conditions are contraindicated with this drug. Check with your physician if you have any of the following:

Conditions:

  • an unusual viral infection called cytomegalovirus infection
  • high cholesterol
  • excessive fat in the blood
  • fluid in the covering of the heart or pericardium
  • liver problems
  • male infertility
  • ascites
  • impaired wound healing
  • pregnancy
  • liver transplant
  • a blood clot in the liver after a liver transplant
  • lung tissue problem
  • lymphedema
  • or swelling due to blockage of lymph nodes
  • kidney problems due to BK polyomavirus
  • pneumonia with a fungus called Pneumocystis jirovecii
  • cancer or malignancy
  • high amount of triglyceride in the blood
  • high blood pressure
  • escape of fluid into the lungs
  • decreased kidney function
  • visible water retention
  • fluid retention in the legs
  • feet
  • arms or hands
  • elevation of proteins in the urine
  • malignant lymphoma
  • lung transplant
  • a bronchial anastomotic dehiscence where the transplanted lung surgical connection comes apart
  • progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
  • a type of brain infection
  • skin cancer
  • a patient who is producing milk and breastfeeding

  • Macrolide Immunosuppressant
