Delavirdine/Rifampin; Rifabutin Interactions

How the interaction occurs:

Rifampin and rifamycin cause your body to process delavirdine more quickly. Delavirdine may cause your body to process rifamycin more slowly.

What might happen:

If you take rifampin or rifamycin with delavirdine, the levels of delavirdine in your blood may decrease, making it less effective. If you take rifamycin with delavirdine, the levels of rifamycin may increase.

What you should do about this interaction:

Tell your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) that you you are taking these medicines together. Your doctor may want to change your medications and may want you to have some test.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
