Olanzapine/Marijuana Smoke Interactions

How the interaction occurs:

Smoking marijuana causes your body to process olanzapine more quickly. Smoking tobacco and marijuana speeds up this process even more.

What might happen:

The blood level of your olanzapine may decrease, so it may not work as well.

What you should do about this interaction:

Let your healthcare professionals know you are using marijuana, how much, and how frequently, or if you stop using marijuana. Your doctor may want to monitor you more closely if you start or stop marijuana use to be sure you are receiving the right dose of olanzapine.Your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of this drug interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
