How the interaction occurs:

Bile acid sequestrants may keep your other cholesterol medicine from getting into your body.

What might happen:

Your fenofibrate or gemfibrozil may not work as well, or may not work at all.

What you should do about this interaction:

Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Taking the fenofibrate 1 hour before or 4-6 hours after the bile acid sequestrant may prevent this interaction. Taking the gemfibrozil 2 hours before or after the bile acid sequestrant may prevent this interaction. Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
