Uses

Uses

This product is used on minor skin sores and wounds to protect the area from irritation and infection. Benzoin is also used on canker sores in and around the mouth to protect them so they can heal.

Benzoin is also used to help relieve and soothe minor irritation of the nose, throat, and airways (such as laryngitis, croup) when it is mixed with hot water and the steam is inhaled.

How to use Benzoin Topical Tincture

If you are using the over-the-counter product to self-treat, read and follow all directions on the product package before using this medication. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, use it as directed.

When this product is used on the skin, clean and dry the affected area first. Then apply to skin as directed.

If you are using the spray, shake the container well before using.

If you are using this product by inhalation, mix it with hot water as directed and inhale the steam (vapors).

Do not use large amounts, use this product more often, or use it for a longer time than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but the chance for side effects may be increased.

Do not use this product in children younger than 6 months without talking to the doctor first.

Do not drink or swallow this product. Avoid contact in or around the eyes.

If your condition does not improve in a few days, if it worsens, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, get medical help right away.

Mild irritation, burning, or redness of the skin may occur as your body adjusts to this product. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If your doctor has prescribed this medication, remember that your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Before using benzoin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product: current infection.

This product contains a large amount of alcohol. Carefully watch children while they are using this product.

During pregnancy, this product should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. Missed Dose

If you are using this product on a regular schedule and miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from heat, flame, and direct sunlight. This product is flammable. Refer to storage information printed on the package. If you have any questions about storage, ask your pharmacist. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
