How the interaction occurs:
Your antibiotic and your calcium channel blocker may affect how your body processes each other.
What might happen:
In some patients, the amount of calcium channel blocker in the blood may increase. This may cause side effects such as low blood pressure, weakness, a slow heartbeat, dizziness, and kidney problems. In other patients, the amount of antibiotic may increase. This can increase the risk of an irregular heartbeat, which can be fatal.
What you should do about this interaction:
Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Your doctor may want to change your antibiotic. Let your doctor know right away if you experience any signs of low blood pressure, weakness, dizziness, fainting, a slow or irregular heartbeat, or a change in the amount of urine you make.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
