How the interaction occurs:
Your medicine contains aluminum, calcium, iron, lanthanum, magnesium, sucralfate, and/or zinc, which are cations that may bind to elvitegravir in your stomach. Some vitamins may contain "hidden" cations such as some forms of calcium and magnesium.
What might happen:
If you take a cation at the same time as your elvitegravir, the amount of elvitegravir that is absorbed into your blood may decrease and it may not work as well.
What you should do about this interaction:
Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. If you are taking a cation, take it at least 2 hours before or after you take your elvitegravir. If you have any questions about how or when to take your medicine, ask your pharmacist.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
