Busulfan/Acetaminophen Interactions

How the interaction occurs:

Acetaminophen may slow down how quickly your body gets rid of busulfan.

What might happen:

It may take longer for your body to remove busulfan.

What you should do about this interaction:

Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Your doctor may tell you to avoid taking acetaminophen for 72 hours before your busulfan therapy and for a few days after. If you are unsure if your medicine contains acetaminophen, ask your pharmacist. Let your doctor know right away if you develop any signs of an infection (fever, chills, persistent sore throat), severe nausea/vomiting/abdominal pain, yellowing of the eyes/skin, mental/mood changes (depression, hallucinations, anxiety, confusion), muscle cramps, increased thirst/urination, fast/irregular heartbeat, bleeding, and/or seizures.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
