Who should not take Cafergot?

The following conditions are contraindicated with this drug. Check with your physician if you have any of the following:

Conditions:

  • abnormal heart rhythm
  • an ulcer from too much stomach acid
  • seizures
  • severe liver disease
  • necrotizing enterocolitis
  • or inflammation and tissue death in the colon and small intestine
  • chronic kidney disease stage 5 (failure)
  • chronic kidney disease stage 4 (severe)
  • high blood pressure
  • cerebral ischemia
  • a lack of blood supply to the brain
  • Raynaud's phenomenon
  • a condition where blood vessels constrict too much with coldness or stress
  • thrombophlebitis
  • an inflamed vein due to a blood clot
  • a condition where there is formation of fibrous tissue in the lung called pulmonary fibrosis
  • diarrhea
  • pregnancy
  • thickening of the lining of the lung
  • porphyria
  • coronary artery disease
  • peripheral vascular disease
  • inadequate blood flow in the extremities
  • liver problems
  • retroperitoneal fibrosis
  • decreased kidney function
  • excessive itching
  • ergot alkaloid toxicity
  • sepsis
  • a patient who is producing milk and breastfeeding

  • Xanthines
  • Coffee
  • Guarana
  • Ergot Alkaloids
  • Amine Ergot Alkaloid
  • Hydrogenated Ergot Alkaloid
  • Semi-Synthetic Ergot Alkaloid
  • Dopamine Receptor Agonist
