Procainamide/Amiodarone Interactions

How the interaction occurs:
Both procainamide and amiodarone can affect your heart rhythm.
What might happen:
These medicines may be used together to help keep your heart rhythm stable. However, there is also a chance that the combination may increase your risk for an irregular heartbeat, which may be very serious.
What you should do about this interaction:
Make sure your cardiologist (heart doctor) knows you are taking these medicines together. Also make sure your doctor knows all the other medicines you are taking. Let your doctor know right away if you notice an irregular heartbeat or have any dizziness or fainting episodes. Your doctor may want to perform tests of your heart function, check blood levels of your medicine, and may want to adjust the dose of one or both medicines.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
