Apomorphine/Promethazine Interactions

How the interaction occurs:

Apomorphine increases the activity of dopamine in the brain. Promethazine blocks the activity of dopamine in the brain.

What might happen:

Promethazine could counteract the beneficial effects of apomorphine, and apomorphine may not work as well. For example, your symptoms of Parkinson's disease could get worse.

What you should do about this interaction:

Make sure your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Let your doctor know right away if you notice any changes in your symptoms.Your doctor may want to change or adjust the dose of your promethazine.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.
