I have been taking the real colchicine for about ten years when I have a gout attack. This stuff act differently in that it does not reverse the effects that have already started It does stop the progression of the swelling. Possibly the manufacturer changed the drug so we would consume more for the same results as the old stuff.

I'm a 54 year old very fit and athletic Asian woman who was diagnosed with gout from hydrochlorothiazide treatment and dehydration. I've been on Colcrys for 2 days and having severe diarrhea, up to the point where I have to miss work. It reduced the swelling but my toe is still red and inflamed. It also makes my cheeks full and red and I have severe nausea. I take it with lots of water and stay home. Gout is debilitating; I don't know how long I can tolerate it..

Frustrated that the drug maker can profitably sell this pill for $5 for 100 tablets, but now sells it for $5 a tablet now that they have an FDA patent. Insurance wouldn't cover the Colcrys prescription, so I ordered generic colchicine from a reputable mail-order Canadian pharmacy. Unlike the US, you can still get the generic from Canada. $59 for 100 of the .6mg pills. Anyways, the medicat ... Show Full Comment

First gout attack was a month ago.took indomethacin with no relief. Dr. prescibed prednisone which got pain to a managable level but didn't take it completely away. had second attack four days ago Doc prescibed colcrys now pain is again managable but have severe diarhea and fatigue and weakness plus paying $5 apill...prednisone seams to work as well and a 10 day supply costs $5

After two full days on this medication the gout attack that started nearly two weeks ago has gotten worse, particularly the swelling. And it is far too expensive!
