About once/year I get a viral URI and the only thing that suppresses my cough is codeine. This time I finished up my Rx from last fall, which said Guanifesin AC. That should be the same as this Rx, Virtussin AC, but it is not the same. This tastes TERRIBLE, so I can only assume they have substituted some cheap generic from what I had before. This stuff goes down easy. Maybe we should have THAT rating, eh? Aside from that, when taken at the prescribed dose, this stuff sucks. I get an effect after taking about 6-7 teaspoons. The "effect" is that I no longer have the convulsive sensation in my bronchial tubes to cough. I have been coughing for a week now and was prescribed this in hopes of getting some relief and some rest. It's almost 1 in the morning and I have yet to stop coughing or sleep. I'll be calling the dr again in the morning.
