I have 2 gastric ulcers and did have gastritis. I also have a low ferritin level. I can take this without any side effects at all! I tried the gentle iron products and they gave me severe pain. I am very pleased with this product and will continue taking. I also feel much better as far as energy and feeling like myself again.

Took one pill,had severe stomach pain that lasted two days.Then nausea and loose stool.Really wanted this to work.But these are full of artificial color and other things,that can't be good.

I took the first pill and could not sleep. This pill also made me sick to my stomach. The nausea and lack of sleep was so severe, I had difficulty functioning and had to stop taking this pill after 2 days. It was the worst side effects I ever experienced in a pill. I will not take again.

After taking iron supplements for years that left me constipated and didn't do much to raise my blood iron levels, I found Proferrin ES. I was skeptical, but I started feeling better within a couple of weeks, and within a few months, my iron level higher than I had been able to get it before. (I have had ZERO side effects from Proferrin ES.) After that, I took it only during heavy periods, twice a day, and for a week or two after that. I've been great since then, several years later. Additionally, I believe that getting my iron to a healthy level decreased my bleeding. I found a doctor who also helped me understand that it's possible to have a normal hemoglobin (oxygen) level, but a very low ferritin (iron) level in the blood. For example, at that first blood test with this doctor, my hemoglobin was 12.9 (low normal), but my ferritin was 4 (very low). Since then, I have always asked doctors to test my ferritin levels to get a true reading. This doctor said that his patients feel better when their ferritin level is 45 to 60, and I have found that to be true for myself. In fact, the last time I had my ferritin checked, it was 103 (normal for women is 18-270). Before I started taking Proferrin ES, the highest I could get my ferritin level with other supplements was 27. For anyone reading this who has heavy periods, I would also add something else I've learned: if you are having heavy periods, you almost certainly have low progesterone levels. Since I started using a compounded bioidentical progesterone cream prescribed by a board-certified family medicine MD, I no longer have heavy periods. The first time he tested my progesterone level, it was almost nonexistent. After he gradually increased my dosage until it raised my progesterone to a healthy level, I also started sleeping well at night, after about 10 years of having difficulty getting more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night. Now I sleep 8 hours, and the sleep is much more restful.
