I've tried every contraception prior to the mirena iud , and my body has rejected all . I was hesitant for the iud , but went ahead with it anyway as I've just had my 5th child . Spotting was light but everyday , had 2 heavy periods with spotting in between till about week 10 . Have now stopped spotting and getting periods all together which I'm absolutely stoked about . Highly recommend

I am a 41 year old woman and have had two Mirena IUDs, one for the full five years, and the second for over 6. (My appointment was cancelled due to COVID and then I totally forgot to reschedule it.) So, I have almost 12 years’ experience and wish I’d known about it sooner. While the main reason I got it was for birth control, going from having heavy periods that lasted 7-8 days to one day of barely spotting has been life changing. I didn’t have any other side effects. The only negative is that it was uncomfortable both during insertion and removal the second time, but my gosh, the insertion takes less than a minute and then a few minutes of mild discomfort. Maybe a little discomfort for a few hours, but nothing worse than I’ve experienced from cramping during my period. Overall, well worth getting five years of effective birth control that I don’t have to think about.

I had the mirena inserted when I was 21. I have never had kids. The first two years I had no period, then regular periods the last 3 years. I did not gain weight and it not affect my mood. I really enjoyed being on the mirena the insertion was painful, but I felt better the next day. I just had my mirena removed yesterday, which was super quick and not as painful.

I had Nexplanon but my obgyn and I didn't like they way my cycles were going so I went in for a cyst check up and ended up getting my Nexplanon out and Marina put in; it was painful for me and I was hurting so bad I was limpi ... I can't really do the stars part. I came here to see what everyone's opinion was on this because I just got mine yesterday and it was not a planned change of iud. I had Nexplanon but my obgyn and I didn't like they way my cycles were going so I went in for a cyst check up and ended up getting my Nexplanon out and Marina put in; it was painful for me and I was hurting so bad I was limping out of the office and literally had to sit in the parking lot for about 10 mins after so that I could gather myself and drive. I felt like I was having my son over again I was still hurting a little bit today but Tylenol helped and I have been having cramps here and there. I hope this iud is good for me.

I had my first Mirena put in 6 weeks after having my daughter. I had sharp cramps for a few hours after the procedure, but after that I had no issues. I did gain weight and had a bad phase of depression a few years into having the IUD, but itâ??s hard to say whether the IUD was the issue. I lost the weight I gained and am feeling much better these days thanks to exercise, meditation, and other natural exercises. I did start having spotty periods a few months ago, they last about 3 days.
