Friends, I have experienced insomnia with Augmentin and Floxin (two other antibiotics), so when I couldn't sleep with Clarithromycin I knew immediately what was going on. The PA who prescribed it though did not believe that an antibiotic could cause insomnia. So there you are: I am still taking it now on day 6 of 10. Regarding other side effects, I have tinnitus anyway so not worried really about the ringing; leg cramps at night are much worse than normal -- all the way up the leg, not just the knee and down; hyped up during the day as well as at night. It's kind of like taking an amphetamine, I think. Sorry for everyone going through this. Oh! it does seem to have cleared up my sinusitis, so there is that. Take care.

I have experienced some of the same side effects others have reported... namely, sleeplessness, bad taste and dry mouth. However, my symptoms began to clear as soon as I started taking the med, so I think it was worth it. Will be happy when the last three pills are gone and I can sleep better.

Chronic sinusitis diagnosed. This is my 3rd round of antibiotics. Sides effects are many, nausea, constipated, tightness of chest, insomnia (haven't slept in a month) and to top it off I still have the severe headaches. Only take as last option.

I have only taken one of these and normally would not write a review so soon. I have had an extreme sore throat for 4 days, sinus and low fever. Dr. prescribed in case it is bacterial and not viral due to a really stressful situation I am dealing with now. I feel better already, BUT . . . I am writing the review because I see so many negative reviews saying they are taking this while on Stat ... Show Full Comment

I have only taken one of these and normally would not write a review so soon. I have had an extreme sore throat for 4 days, sinus and low fever. Dr. prescribed in case it is bacterial and not viral due to a really stressful situation I am dealing with now. I feel better already, BUT . . . I am writing the review because I see so many negative reviews saying they are taking this while on Statins for cholesterol and having very bad effects. There are some warnings about this drug being taken with STATINS, so STOP if that is your case and go back to your doctor like now!!!

I too thought I was losing my mind. Sleepless nights in a recliner, restless. Was already traumatized from a severe nose bleed and trip to ER prior to an ENT referral then this RX prescribed. I don't normally experience the "possible side effects" but this RX took me there very quickly. Sleep non-existent. Would fall asleep, or think I had fallen asleep, only to awaken within seconds/minutes. Dream issues worst on day after taking the 10th and last pill of 500 /mg one every 12 hour course. On call ENT I spoke with about side effects said he felt RX was too high a dosage and for too many days; pharmacist was not alarmed at 2 week dosage. ENT said stop immediately and contact Dr next business day. Experienced what I now believe were hallucinations, rapid heart beat, weird dreams (not even sure if I was asleep), muscle weakness. All worse in evening after taking second dose of the day. Each night seem to last for weeks waiting for time to pass. As to effectiveness, on day 5 sinuses started draining, could breathe better, started with pressure headaches. Dr's goal to clear infection in two weeks so CT scan can be done to finalize treatment plan-two full weeks on this medicine would have put me fully into the Purple Haze I was already in. I cannot believe people take drugs intentionally to cause what I and others have reported as side effects.
