Very effective calmative and no horrible side effects. People often analogize Atarax with Benadryl (diphenhydramine), because both are sedating anti-histamines. But I find Atarax less 'harsh' than Bendaryl, side effect-wise. Indeed Atarax's chemically a different type of anti-histmamine than diphenhydramine is. The onset of Atarax is rapid too. My primary care giver had first prescribed prozac, the added klonipin. I was referred to a psychiatrist which I cannot see until they have an appt in a month. I ran out of klonipin, so the dr.'s team gave me this instead of the klonipin. This stuff knocks me for a loop, I cannot think straight and I'm dizzy as heck after sleeping 12 hrs straight.
