I was started on Lamictal - which worked great, but I had an allergic reaction. I was switched to lithium, and it's amazing. It's the first time since I was diagnosed with Bipolar I that I've found a medication that really works. I can't express how grateful I am for this med. The biggest downside, though, (which is often too much for people) is that it makes you really thirsty

I am 45 and have been bi polar for over 20 years. This medication has worked wonders for me and given me back my life. I tried Lamictal but it enhanced certain manic episodes and even caused additional problems, but Lithium has worked so far. I have gained a few pounds but otherwise I can only see good.
