I was diagnosed with ET about 8 years ago. I will be 60 in 3 months. I started out at .5 mg 2x a day, and progressed to 1 mg 2x a day. This drug controlled my platelets, as long as I took each dose. The morning pill gave me an increased heart rate that became increasingly uncomfortable.Also my RBC was low. MD noticed elevated platelets for over a year, sent to oncologist, had bone marrow aspiration (ouch!), megakaryocytes are producing too many platelets, so went on Agralyn, later generic anagrelide. I began taking anagrelide Jan. 2011. At present I am taking 2.5 mg at 6 a.m. , 2mg 6 p.m. My platelets fluctuate between 500,000 and 750,000. My major complaints are morning diarrhea, swollen ankles which I thought was due to water retention but now feel it is circulation. See the oncologist in a few weeks and will discuss.
