I was taking 40 units twice a day of Lantus, and a sliding scale of 0-5 units before meals of Humalog--most days I needed none. My A.M. fasting blood sugars averaged between 85-95, with 3-6.7. Then about a month ago I was forced to switch to Lememir. Now my average A.M. fasting blood sugars have been 120-150. After meals glucometer readings have reached as high as 277. I have even cut down more on the minimal carbs I take in, and have increased cardio on my workouts. To compensate, I'm currently up to 55 unites of Lememir twice a day and have to compensate with an enormous increase in Humalog: 15-20 units before each meal. I've only seen one glucometer reading under 110 since starting this stupid insulin, and that was after I'd skipped two meals because I was sick. I despise the insurance company for pulling this switch on me...just because it makes some of their fat pockets even fatter--they care ZIP for the wellfare of the drug recipients. My doctor is currently in the 2nd phase of insurance company over-rides, which I am told could take up to a month and then be denied again. In the meantime, my opthamologist warns me that any blood sugars over 150 could result in further retinal bleeding. I WISH SOMEONE COULD HELP ME TODAY!!! I also have my husband's transplanted kidney to protect! The transplant follow-up team were the ones who'd started me on Lantus 11 years ago. They had warned against ever switching any of the meds. Too bad they hadn't told the insurance company that! PS: I've also had mechanical problems with pens; have been gaining weight from the extra insulin.

My husband had been on this insulin for 3 weeks with no reduction in blood sugar. He takes 20 units in the morning and 6 units novolog before meals and blood sugar still running 300's.I had called the drug company when I could not inject the medicine even after changing the needle. Why is this flexpen being issued even after so many people dissatisfied?

Have had good results for lowering blood sugar counts. Have a question about a possible side effect. I have had a bitter taste in the back of my throat past the tongue. Notice it mostly when eating a meal. Symptom does not last long. No pain from symptom, but wondered if this new drug could cause this.

Like many of the reviews, I too am not impressed by this drug. B/c of insurance, had to switch from Lantus -which was working fine - it's sad when they take away drugs that are working -I'll look into fighting insurance. I take 35 units at night, take 1.2+ units of Victoza, and 1000 Metformin at lunch and dinner. I'm in the donut hole and paid over $1000 for Medicine today at Costc ... Show Full Comment

Not to mention, the Levemin flex pen doesn't work at times. I went to doc -told her that I wasn't having good results with Levemir -she was surprised?? A1c was high -very frustrated especially after losing 10 lbs, eating sorta right and dog walking. Why do insurance companies screw with most important thing - our health???

Insurance would only cover this and started 8 mos ago. started at 8 units (used for over a years) now up to 22 units and sugars were 159 this am. Am very disheartened and about to give it up Bad QC. some pens don't work at all.
