I took Xanax for ten years and my doctor told me he would no longer proscribed it due to f.d.a. this was the best anxiety drug I ever took. good luck getting a doctor to proscribe it. I tried other doctors but as soon as you mention Xanax they look at you like you are a drug addict. medication that is tried and true is being denied to patients for the wrong reason

Took this medication for a few weeks for panic attacks, but couldn't get another script. I was ok with this because it only helped a little bit. Doctor said it was safe to stop taking without tapering because I was on the lowest possible dose for only a few weeks. I'm 62,and stopping xanax has plagued me with hallucinations, sizures, comatose for days when going cold turkey. ( The d---Doctors pull it from you without tapering off! BAD way to go. Went in Hosp. on no less than three occasions because of this. For the last 40 years I have been on and off of this stuff, but also tried other meds,(valium,clonazapam, etc.) which didn't help at all.Xanax was the chemical for my system, now the Drs. are scared to death to perscribe it! Damn DEA getting involved with MY health now, they stick their nose into everybodys' business, so now I suffer not only for this peoblem, but also botched back surgery which has left me with about 10 - 15% operative capacity in anything I need to work on. It's terrible. Benzodiazipines have a double edged sword, and they will cut you HARD if you stop suddenly, worst drug I've ever had that helps me feel "normal", but tries to kill me too. Damed if you do, damed if you don't. (kinda like crack!)Remember, addiction,(a term used too often), and dependency are two different things. I became dependent, not addicted.

Over the next few months I took as needed. Although it stopped the panic attacks, the panic attacks started occurring more frequently, then became daily. Doctor said my panic disorder was worsening, but I started to think it was the xanax. Tapered for two weeks and went through hell for almost 2 months - panic attacks several times a day, much worse than the ones I was prescribed xanax for, had a weird restless feeling throughout my body, in addition to severe body pain and tinnitus. After 2 months, was eating breakfast and all the withdrawal symptoms just stopped instantaneously. I have only had 1 panic attack since my terror symptoms cleared up, and it was very minor. If your panic attacks get worse while taking this, don't let a doctor tell you it is just your anxiety getting worse, it is the damn drug!
