I was prescribed this medication to ease my severe sore strep throat along with Amoxicillin and Benzonatate tablets. The directions clearly say "Swish and gargle 15mls (about one tablespoon) for 15 seconds every 4hrs while awake for pain. Spit out, do not swallow". I was prescribed this medication to ease my severe sore strep throat along with Amoxicillin and Benzonatate tablets. The directions clearly say "Swish and gargle 15mls (about one tablespoon) for 15 seconds every 4hrs while awake for pain. Spit out, do not swallow". At first glance, I didn't have any concern for taking this medication. I have experienced gargling a warm water salt solution before and assumed this would be similar. After squeezing the thick, corn syrup consistency, goop into a tablespoon I immediately grew reluctant to gargle this slime. I sucked it up, and before I could gargle the ooze for 3 seconds, I found myself violently gagging and throwing up into my sink. I figured there had to be a better way of taking this medication, so I grabbed a cup and blended equal parts warm water and the syrup. I found the courage to try gargling this mess again hoping the dilution would make it more bearable. I was able to gargle the substance for a little longer the second time around, but inevitably, I ended up gagging and vomiting once again into my sink. After all of the hassle, only my tongue, cheeks, and lips received the numbing sensation. My sore throat was not subdued what so ever, and the numb feeling I did have went away after 5 minutes. I would not recommend this medication to anybody, unless they have no type of gag-reflex, can stand the awful taste and smell, and can accept paying for Rx that is not effective. I am not satisfied with my prescription, but hopefully the other medications given to me will get the job done.

Prescribed for severe sore throat. Initially, I thought pharmacy skipped a step in the gargling instructions. It was like gargling with corn syrup. The company that is producing this drug needs to reinvent the consistency to allow proper usage for gargling and can definitely up the numbing action. Will never use or recommend this product to anyone.

No dentist on call weekends to get tooth pulled. At first only numbed gum, cheek, tongue but after continued routine dosing for several doses finally helped inner tooth pain also. Had to then continue routine dosing or would lose gained ground completely.

I have insurance - only had to pay 5 dollars for 2 bottles of 200 doses. So I am in no way rating this from a "worth it for the price" standpoint. I have such bad strep, my tonsils are basically touching each other. Ive been miserable for days, and the second I used the lidocain, a 10/10 on the pain scale went to a 1/10.. for about an hour at a time. DO NOT GARGLE JUST THE LIDOCAIN ... Show Full Comment

I have such bad strep, my tonsils are basically touching each other. Ive been miserable for days, and the second I used the lidocain, a 10/10 on the pain scale went to a 1/10.. for about an hour at a time. DO NOT GARGLE JUST THE LIDOCAINE, people keep saying it is too think to gargle, if they had read the directions, it supposed to be 1 TSP of Lidocaine diluted in 1 TSP of water, it gargles very easy with the sorest of throats. My tongue gets slightly numb, but i usually shoot the substance back from a shotglass, makes it very easy. Just close the throat and catch it with your enlarged tonsils. I barely even notice the numbing of my tonsils, only the pure relief that it gives me from when I swallow. I went from not being able to sip on water, to eating mashed potato and a protein bar in minutes. This stuff rocks if you apply it correctly, which it seems like the people who rated this poorly applied it wrong. If you have insurance do yourself a HUGE favor, get some lidocain, I promise if you follow the directly, its a real life saver.Even if you dont have insurance, I cant imagine its too expensive.

Why would any true doctor prescribe this for sinus infection? You already can't swallow, don't want to eat and now your whole mouth is numb. Does kickback mean anything here? Stay clear of this so called med!!
