Caution the first 5-6 days, then afterwards no problems. Just remember to take the drug on time as prescribed by the physician. The drug is cost effective. No need for more expensive drugs. I am a senior citizen and this is a big concern.

I have been on Tegretol XR since 2002; prior to that I was on regular Tegretol. The Extended action has greatly decreased the frequency of seizure and, according to the blood tests my doctor has ordered (about once a year) has stayed in my system. I take 2 600MG capsules in the morning and 2 in the evening and am very happy with the overall effectiveness of the medicine. I do not feel overly ti ... Show Full Comment

I have been on Tegretol XR since 2002; prior to that I was on regular Tegretol. The Extended action has greatly decreased the frequency of seizure and, according to the blood tests my doctor has ordered (about once a year) has stayed in my system. I take 2 600MG capsules in the morning and 2 in the evening and am very happy with the overall effectiveness of the medicine. I do not feel overly tired or sleepy as a side effect of taking the medication.

I was in my teens and had a very diffucult time in high school. It was very hard to concentrate on school work and I could hardly stay awake. I've read where people are on these types of drugs for many years without seizures. Have they ever tried weaning themselves off to see if they have outgrown the seizures. I weaned myself off and found that I was seizure free without medication. Don& ... Show Full Comment

Started off ok no symptoms but after 2 weeks tablets increased to 400mg twice a day. Started with a rash which progressed over a few days to a very bad itchy skin rash all over body swollen hot red face. By about the 6th day my lips had swollen I had sore blisters all over my mouth and tongue. I have stopped taking tegratol and after 5 days the rash is going darker in colour and is not as itchy. ... It looks as if it is clearing in patches but is still mostly all over my body. My lips and blistered mouth recovered after about 2 days of not taking it. Very disapointed in the side effects as the drug was keeping my seizures away.
