I was recently diagnosed with SP and Complex Partial Seizures. Started on 500 mg twice a day and after a week, went to 1000 mg twice a day. After my 3rd dose (on a weekend) at 1000 mg, I went back to the 500mg and called my doctor on Monday---I was angry, hostile and had no idea why. Back on 500 mg twice a day. Initially, Keppra seemed to be working. Initial side effects-dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, sadness, tiredness. All of these except sadness and tiredness resolved after approximately a month. Neuro suggested changing when I took the dose to deal with the tiredness and what started as a bit of sadness before became overwhelming. Mother of 11 year old, this has not been easy, terrible mood swings on Keppra, his seizures have stopped during the daytime but still has them during the night!
