I have been on this medication for over six months due to my diagnosis of Pseudotumor Cerebri. My ophthalmologist asked if I was having symptoms of PTC such as blurred vision, headaches, blackouts, etc. and I wasn't. My MRIs came back negative. I was started on meds to treat PTC. I have side effects that include tingling in my hands and feet, dry mouth, fatigue (usually at 12pm with no lunch eaten), and slight forgetfulness. I started this medication on 250 mgs 2x/day along with Topamax 75mgs and have lost 18lbs since being on both medications. Both medications have the same side effects. My neurologist recently decided that I can be weaned off of Topamax due to improvement in my eye condition. I am now on Diamox 500 mgs 2x/day. My optic nerve is less swollen and the pressure is going down. I have not had a spinal tap although initially my ophthalmologist was adamant about getting one. My neuro decided against it. He wanted to see if the meds would work 1st and luckily they did. I do have loss of appetite as well. I have changed my diet and I am beginning to exercise. My side effects aren't that bad and I am pleased with the weight loss. I needed something to help kick start my lifestyle change and I am grateful to still have my vision.

This drug has worked for me to treat my condition, however the side effects are almost unbearable. The "pins and needles" feeling I was getting in my limbs was so severe that it kept me from walking at times. Mind you, I was only taking 250mg twice a day which is considered a low dose for the drug. I am envious of those who can tolerate it because Diamox is decently effective over time, ... Honestly, I've found the best way to treat my condition is to lose weight.

I was diagnosed with IIH on Oct 31, 2012; I have been on Diamox ever since, 500mg 2x day. The side effects can come from nowhere and stop at anytime. The worst is the dry mouth; I always need water or gum around. I have lost as of today 5/21/13 60 lbs and I'm still struggling with IIH. I really wish they understood this condition more. But i always felt like a healthy teenager, just one that couldn't see the board. But now with my Diamox I'm constantly feeling weak with tingling on my face and feet, I get confused often, I sunburn easily, and soda is gross. Diamox makes me actually feel unhealthy, but its better than becoming blind.
